SPECIAL COMMITTEES OF THE REPUBLICAN WOMEN OF KERR COUNTY
Americanism & Games Day
Project
ó
Encourages showing strong love of country and
all it stands for to promote the spirit of patriotism locally and throughout
our state and county.
ó
Presents American Flags to local community
organizations.
ó
Annually provides copies of the U. S.
Constitution to all fifth grade students in Kerr County.
Caring for America
ó
It is our goal to encourage all members to
reach out to our community to make our county and nation the best that it
can be and show that Republican Women “Do Care”!
We have three
projects this year for the Caring for America Committee:
1. Care
Packages for our Troops: We purchase, sort, pack and mail the packages to
the men and women of our Armed Forces. We mail such items as, to mention
just a few: baby wipes, nail scrub brushes, eye drops, crossword puzzle
books, magazines, bubble gum, sunflower seeds, cheese crackers, hand warmers
(winter only), Q-tips, foot powder, Frisbees, and playing cards.
2. Habitat for Humanity: Six times a
year, on Saturday, we feed the Habitat for Humanity workers. That number can
range from 10 to 25 people. We form six committees, with four to five ladies on each
committee. This way we all get to enjoy the project and the workers.
3. VA Hospital Project: Ladies volunteer
to serve at the VA Hospital in Kerrville through the South Texas Veterans
Health Care System Voluntary Service. As each member’s time permits, they
visit patients, help the nurses by running errands and help make the Veteran
as comfortable as possible.
Literacy
ó
Donates books for the Barbara Bush Literacy
Library Project (BBLLP) and the Mamie Eisenhower Library Project (MELP).
ó
Provides third grade students in Kerr County
with their own personal dictionary.
Outreach Education
ó
Assists in the recruitment of young
Republican students in high school and college to encourage them to
volunteer at Republican Headquarters and for Republican candidate’s
campaigns.
ó
Promotes Republican history, philosophy, and
values to groups and organizations in our community.
Scholarships
ó
We support the TFRW State Award and the NFRW
Dorothy Andrews Kabis Memorial Internship, National Pathfinder Scholarship
and Betty Rendel Scholarship.
ó
At
the local level we annually present the Theda Schlieter Scholarship to a
member of RWKC seeking to further her education by taking continuing
education courses in various fields of endeavor or being enrolled in an
undergraduate or graduate school program.
